Year 6 Transition

We want all of our students to experience a smooth, happy and supportive transition from primary school as they continue to develop their love of learning throughout the next stage of their school life.  Our transition programme is designed to give our new Year 7 students the confidence they need to thrive at Whitecross.

During the summer term, Whitecross staff visit primary schools to meet and talk with our new Year 7 students, helping to answer any questions they may have. Our Induction Day is designed to enable students to experience a taste of ‘Life at Whitecross’.  A wide mix of sessions give students the opportunity to take part in lessons, enjoy team building activities with their peers and reflect on their own journey from primary school.  At Induction Evening parents and carers meet their child’s new form tutor and find out how they can best support their child to succeed.

Our highly successful Summer School in August is another great way for students to meet some of their new teachers, make new friends and enjoy lots of fun and exciting activities at their new school.  In September the first day of the school year is reserved for Year 7 when they experience Whitecross as well as learning about our rules and routines so that they are fully empowered to make the most of all of the opportunities available.

Our specialist team of Year 7 form tutors led by Mrs Watson, Year 7 Pastoral Lead, are on hand to guide students through their first year.  They support students in joining clubs, taking ownership of being organised, arranging events and being on hand to answer any queries.  In November, parents and carers are invited to our dedicated Year 7 tutor evening to meet with their child’s form tutor and discuss how they have settled in.  Our team of specialists from the SEND and Safeguarding teams are on hand throughout the transition process to offer additional support.
