Teacher Training

Initial Teacher Training (ITT) and Early Career Framework (ECF) at Whitecross

Whitecross Hereford is committed to the training of new teachers. We are proud to support Initial Teacher Training (ITT) through the PGCE route in partnership with the University of Worcester and the University of Gloucester, as well as the School Direct path in collaboration with the Hereteach Regional Training Hub and Stourport SCITT.  Whitecross has developed thriving relationships with our partners and works hard to ensure that high quality training is given by a team of trained specialists to all trainees who are placed with us.

Trainees who are placed at Whitecross Hereford will be exposed to the highest quality teaching and learning strategies delivered by leading practitioners building on the latest educational research and national developments. Trainee teachers will gain substantial practical experience and will be supported and mentored by a subject specialist. Trainee teachers also benefit from a robust Professional Studies programme which complements the content taught by their provider and helps to develop effective strategies for teaching and learning and classroom management.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time training at Whitecross. I have had great support from my mentor who has really helped me to sharpen up my classroom practice. The professional studies sessions have been hugely supportive and given me a deeper understanding of why we do what we do.’  CT

Early Careers Teachers (ECTs)

The Early Career Framework is a two-year government funded programme, offering a framework and resources to better support newly qualified teachers.  All ECTs are entitled to regular observations and meetings with their specialist mentor who provides coaching, advice and support. ECTs are also provided time for independent study on different strands of the Early Careers Framework to help deepen their pedagogical knowledge and understanding.  They are also supported by the Training Manager who provides regular feedback and guidance.
