Design is intelligence made visible.

- Alina Wheeler

The Design and Technology department aims to deliver an engaging and broad curriculum encompassing all material areas including resistant materials, graphics, textiles, food & nutrition and electronics.

We want the next generation of designers to be able to fully utilise the wide range of materials and tools to research, design and develop solutions to problems they identify.

We aim to support students to become reflective consumers of products that they purchase by teaching them the skills to evaluate and select products based on their needs and preferences. Students will develop an awareness of environmental issues, sustainable practices and energy generation, to enable them to have a better understanding of their impact on the world around them. Students will develop useful life skills that will enable them to cook nutritious meals, assemble and repair products they use and need in their lives.

This means:

  • Students think independently and collaboratively to develop creative design solutions.
  • Students are able to articulate and communicate their designs using a range of drawing and CAD skills.
  • Students develop an understanding of safe work practices using a range of tools, equipment and machines.
  • Students aspire to seeing their designs come to life through manufacturing into prototype products.
