A computer is like a violin. You can imagine it making beautiful music, but you have to learn how to play it.

Through Computer Science and IT lessons students will gain the knowledge needed to engage effectively and safely with the digital world.

They will become resilient problem solvers, equipped with the skills to develop their own ideas and express them creatively through information and communication technology.  Students will use programming languages to design their own algorithms which solve computational problems.

This means:

  • Students will develop the skills to use a range of basic desktop software used across the school and in the wider world of work.
  • Students will be able to deconstruct a problem, abstract the key information and plan solutions to problems.
  • Students will be able to design algorithms to solve problems and code solutions using a variety of high-level programming languages.
  • Students will be able to describe the key features of a computer and how it processes information.
  • Students will develop their understanding of the advantages of information technology and the potential dangers of interacting in a virtual environment, thus learning to keep themselves safe online.
  • Students will learn to use computers ethically and responsibly.
