Whitecross Hereford Duke of Edinburgh award scheme was delighted in their successful Lottery bid application for Awards for All Grant, receiving £6008. This valuable income has been spent on essential equipment including tents, rucksacks, cook stoves, first aid equipment and more, meaning that the scheme really is accessible to all without having to invest in expensive kit.It has also been used to fund necessary training for staff, including Outdoor First Aid Training for all Duke of Edinburgh volunteers.
2016 marked the 60th anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. People across the country have taken on the Diamond challenge to raise money to help young disadvantaged people in their area. Mrs Boucher and Mrs Davis have both completed a challenge; Mrs Davis paddled down the River Wye and this really was a challenge for her as she has a fear of deep water whilst Mrs Boucher went for something slightly different, swimming on Christmas day before her dinner! They have both raised valuable funds for young people in Herefordshire.
